We alerted you over the past few months that the Finalsite Connect servers have undergone an upgrade that includes the enhancement of some cryptographic standards. Many delivery automation tools will transition to the new standard seamlessly. But depending on your settings, some will cease deliveries until an administrator approves the detected change.
On May 21, 2024, the remaining sftp servers at sftp.blackboardconnect.com were upgraded to the new standard as well. Any service still using the old domain will encounter a disruption until the new keys are accepted and any issues are resolved.
The new address of the SFTP server is: sftp.finalsiteconnect.com.
What To Do
Effective immediately, the SFTP administrator must perform the following quick steps (should only take a few minutes):
- Change the url in the sftp software to point from (sftp.blackboardconnect.com) to (sftp.finalsiteconnect.com)
- Note: There is no need to change your Port or Credentials - those remain the same
- Attempt to connect.
- You may be prompted to trust our servers and accept a certificate key; you should accept it.
- Depending on your software, there may be a separate prompt to store the key. You should store it as well.
- Upon a successful completion and acceptance of the certificate key, automated delivery should continue as before.
After you accept the certificate key, you can then either wait for your automated uploads to continue as expected, or you can do an immediate upload to ensure that all is working.
The following is an example of the prompt given by two popular sftp utilities. Your exact prompts and software may vary:
Troubleshooting
If any issues are encountered with the above steps, revert back to the original SFTP address and contact support. If you need to reach out to Support, please prepare the following:
- Your device’s public IP address (you can use a service such as googling “what is my IP address” from the connecting device).
- Record the time of the connection attempt to the new website.
- Verify that the credentials you are using with the new connection actually work with your old connection/sftp site, and please record the time of that successful attempt as well.
- Have your operating system and version available.
