Connect SMS recipients can opt out by replying STOP to any message, and opt back in by texting START (or similar keywords) to 63079 or their school's 10-digit number — administrators cannot manually resubscribe users due to carrier privacy laws.
💡Quick answers
- How does a parent opt out of SMS messages? Reply STOP (or UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, QUIT, or BLOCK) to any school message — multi-school users receive keycodes to unsubscribe from specific schools or reply STOP ALL for all.
- How does a parent re-subscribe to SMS messages? Text START, JOIN, RESUME, SUBSCRIBE, GO, or UNBLOCK to 63079 (or the school's 10-digit number) — multi-school users can reply START [KeyCode] for a specific school or START ALL for all.
- Can an administrator resubscribe a parent? No — carrier privacy laws require the recipient to initiate resubscription from their own device.
- What if the parent still doesn't receive messages after opting back in? Verify the phone number in the Connect portal matches their device, check that 63079 isn't blocked on their phone, and if needed have them contact their carrier.

Opt-out of SMS outreach
Step 1: Reply STOP
If a parent no longer wishes to receive SMS outreach messages from a school, they can reply "STOP" to an outreach message they received from the school.
Step 2: Receive the school list
Once parents reply “STOP”, they’ll receive automated confirmation messages showing which organizations they’ve unsubscribed from.
Step 3: Confirm the opt-out
For recipients associated with multiple institutions:
- Each institution will send a separate SMS message with its unique keycode.
- Sample message format:
- [KeyCode]-Connect Alerts: Your number is mapped to multiple programs.
- For [AbberName] reply "STOP" [KeyCode] or reply "STOP ALL" for all programs.
- Parents can reply "STOP" [KeyCode] to opt in to a specific school.
- Parents can reply "STOP ALL" to opt in to all associated organizations at once.
After opting in, they’ll receive a confirmation message for each selected program.
For recipients associated with a single institution:
The opt-out process remains unchanged—replying "STOP" will subscribe them to that school.
A success message will confirm their subscription.
Opt-in, opt-back-in, or resubscribe to SMS outreach
If a parent has previously opted out and wishes to resume receiving messages, they must initiate the process from their own device. Due to mobile carrier privacy laws, administrators cannot manually resubscribe a user.

Troubleshooting resubscriptions
If a parent no longer has the original outreach message in their inbox, they do not need to wait for a new one. They can simply open a new text message, type START, and send it to 63079.
If the user still does not receive messages:
- Verify the number: Ensure the phone number in the Connect portal matches the user's device.
- Check for "Blocked" contacts: Ensure the user hasn't accidentally blocked the number 63079 at the system level on their iPhone or Android device.
- Carrier Filter: In rare cases, a mobile carrier may flag frequent opt-ins/opt-outs as spam. If keywords are ignored, the user may need to contact their service provider.
